Welcome to Sofia’s Greka Kitchen
Welcome – Καλώς Ήρθατε!
My name is Sofia.
I am passionate about Greek food and the Mediterranean diet and although I work in the corporate world, cooking Greek food has always been my haven, especially since I now live in the UK. ‘Sofia’s Greka Kitchen’ was born out of my love for Greece and as a way of preserving our family recipes, tradition, and Greek culture.
I grew up in a little village in central Greece with my grandparents and they both taught me to appreciate and respect the value of home-grown ingredients, home reared animals and what they had to offer us.
It was my grandmother and mother who taught me to cook and appreciate our Greek traditions and customs.
My aim is to introduce you to the Greek cuisine and share with you an array of sweet, savoury and Lenten recipes.

This houmous recipe will give you the perfect basic houmous and also a solid base from which to work in terms of experimenting with flavours.
There is so much pleasure in making your own houmous. It's very easy to make and believe me it tastes so much better that the shop bought ones.
Go for it - you will love it!

Its one of those heart warning dishes that its simple, quick to make and utterly delicious.
In my version of the Youvarelakia I just add fresh lemon juice at the end. It takes me back to my childhood and makes me happy!
I hope you enjoy it! x

Melomakarona are a traditional Greek Christmas cookie. They are loved all over Greece and we make them every year - the house fills with the aromas of orange, honey, cinnamon....
The word Melomakarona, is a two word word - 'meli' means honey and 'makarona' means blessed (it comes from the ancient word 'makaria').
Try them...you will love them!
If you are looking for a simple, healthy, quick and delicious weeknight meal look no further... Spanakorizo (spinach & rice) is an authentic, traditional Greek vegetarian meal consisting of just a few ingredients.
This dish is very popular in Greece and it incorporates low cost ingredients, easy preparation and its so yummy! Its super healthy too, as its packed with the “superfood” spinach and rice which is low in saturated fats and cholesterol. There are variations to this dish as you can add tomato to it too - here our version is the one without the addition of tomato.
